Sex and the City. Am I a stereotypical girl, or what? But hear me out: The show/franchise (whatever you want to call it) preaches the power of best friends. Men come and go, but Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda will always have each other. Not to mention, the clothes are FAB U LOUS.

Dishwashers. Maybe the best invention ever, because my least favorite chore is washing dishes by hand... especially after I slave over a meal, gobble up said meal, and wash down meal with lots of wine. After that, I'm thankful that I can just load up my trusty dishwasher and retire to the couch.

The Public Library. Whenever I step into a public library, I wonderful feeling comes over me. I seem to regard it as a sacred space. And practically speaking, how great is it that millions of books are available for free to the masses?!

Catching up with a long-distance friend on the phone. It's sad that you can't see each other face-to-face very often, sure, but hearing that voice, and telling them what's on your heart, and laughing at old jokes, well, they don't feel so far-away after all.

Summer sunsets at the beach with friends. Too specific? Maybe, maybe not. Anyway, it's the type of thing that makes you think, "why don't we do this more often?" because it's simple and joyful at the same time.

Shakespeare in the park. I saw Romeo & Juliet performed in a park this weekend. So much fun! Sitting on blankets, eating cheese and bread, secretly sipping wine... It was a wonderful summer experience.

Meeting new animals that are just as happy to meet me. I love walking around my neighborhood and running into the occasional cat that's just hanging out on the sidewalk. Then we have a little moment of "hello! how are you? nice to meet you!" and go on our separate ways.

Peter Pan. It just happens to be my favorite story, but I think it is a universally well-loved story. Because it involves the magic of childhood and being young and having adventures.

Cat videos. Is it humanly possible to be in a sour mood after watching a funny video involving a cute cat?? No, I thought not. This one in particular is a new favorite.

Iced coffee drinks. It's very warm here in Seattle. And there is no way I'm going to drink hot coffee on summer days like these. BUT I need my morning picker-upper. So praise the Lord that coffee tastes delicious over ice. It's almost the way I always prefer it. Such a wonderful way to start your day.

The sound of a symphony warming up. The anticipation of the start of a concert. The cacophony of all instruments playing at once, surprisingly lovely and exciting. It might be one of my favorite noises in the world.

The smell of rain on a hot pavement. What a wonderful and mysterious scent. Summer storms hold a certain happiness in themselves; but that smell... let's just dwell on that for now.

Seniors who are still in love. Isn't that just a testament that love doesn't wither with time? Seeing a couple of septuagenarians holding hands as they walk along gives us youngsters hope that we'll be able to find someone who will love us even when we've gone wrinkly.

New friends. Especially the kind you feel an instant connection to. You know in your heart-of-hearts that this person is going to be a good friend, a kindred spirit.
